National Festival of Architecture to Be Held in Belarus This Autumn
The National Festival of Architecture is set to take place in Belarus this autumn, as announced by Oleg Bykovsky, Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Architects, at the BelTA press center. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian Union of Architects, making the festival a significant celebration of the profession.
Scheduled for September to October, the festival promises a vibrant array of events, competitions, and creative activities aimed at engaging both young architects and seasoned professionals. Bykovsky expressed his hope that the festival would elevate the status of architecture and urban planning in Belarus, inviting everyone to participate in this celebration of creativity and innovation.
Bykovsky emphasized the crucial role architects play in societal development, stating, "The basis for community development is urban planning, and housing policy is part of it." He highlighted the importance of careful consideration in construction practices, noting that state policy governs the issuance of permits and decisions regarding major construction projects.
The festival, which has been held biennially since 1999, is organized by the Belarusian Union of Architects with support from various ministries, including the Architecture and Construction Ministry, the Education Ministry, the Culture Ministry, and the Minsk City Executive Committee, as well as the International Association of Unions of Architects (IAUA). The 2023 theme, "Architecture and Urban Planning - The Basis of Community Development," aims to showcase the works of Belarusian architects and recognize outstanding contributions in the field.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Belarusian Union of Architects plans to expand the festival's program to include events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. This will feature thematic exhibitions, architectural projects, and competitions focused on enhancing the living environment. A significant emphasis will be placed on collaboration with students from architectural schools, fostering the next generation of architects.
Additionally, the Union has agreed to collaborate with the organizing committee of the "Leaders in Construction" project, which will provide expert support and facilitate joint industry events. This partnership aims to strengthen the connection between education and professional practice in architecture and construction.
The National Festival of Architecture promises to be a landmark event, celebrating the rich heritage and future of architecture in Belarus while fostering community engagement and professional development.
