Lesy SR, Slovakia's state forestry enterprise, is embarking on an exciting project to build new tourist shelters along popular hiking trails. Set for completion by spring 2025, these shelters will be strategically located in seven picturesque areas across western, central, and eastern Slovakia, significantly enhancing the country's hiking amenities.
Strategic Locations for the Shelters
The selected sites for the shelters have been carefully chosen by experts familiar with the terrain and popular hiking routes. The aim is to provide a welcoming rest stop for nature enthusiasts exploring Slovakia's diverse landscapes. The locations include:
- Western Slovakia: Near the village of Podhradie in the Topoľčany district and the village of Horná Ves in the Prievidza district.
- Central Slovakia: Near Čierny Balog, Turie, and Hrochoť.
- Eastern Slovakia: Near Šindliar and Vyšná Rybnica.
Shelter Features
The new shelters will be constructed from wood and feature metal roofs, ensuring durability and comfort for hikers. Each shelter will be equipped with essential amenities, including:
- A table and benches for resting and dining
- Bunk beds and sleeping areas for overnight stays
- A wood stove for warmth and cooking
- An attic space for additional sleeping arrangements
These shelters will be accessible to everyone, day or night, and will complement the existing network of shelters along marked trails in Slovakia.
