Number of Doctors per 10,000 Residents reaches 44
In 2023, the number of practicing physicians per 10,000 residents in Hungary increased to 44, according to data from the Central Statistics Office (KSH). This is a notable rise from 42 in the previous year and a significant increase from 38 a decade earlier.
Regional Distribution
- Capital and Counties with Medical Schools: The ratio of doctors per 10,000 inhabitants ranged from 65 to 76. These areas benefit from the proximity to medical educational institutions, contributing to a higher density of practicing physicians.
- Western Counties: The number of practicing physicians was between 38 and 40 per 10,000 inhabitants.
- Underdeveloped Northern and Eastern Regions: These areas saw the lowest ratios, with only 21 to 24 doctors per 10,000 residents. This disparity highlights the challenges faced in providing adequate medical care in less developed parts of the country.
The data indicates an overall improvement in the availability of medical professionals in Hungary, though significant regional disparities remain. Addressing these imbalances is crucial for ensuring equitable access to healthcare across the country.
