Osogbo Exhibition Celebrates Mama Nike's 72nd Birthday
A remarkable art exhibition recently took place in Osogbo, showcasing the extraordinary talents of 13 celebrated contemporary Nigerian artists. The event was organized by the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding (CBCIU) and held at the prestigious Oba Moses Oyinlola Museum and Photographic Gallery. The exhibition, aptly titled "Legendary," not only honored the 55-year artistic journey of Chief Dr. Nike Okundaye but also coincided with her 72nd birthday on Tuesday, May 23.
The week-long exhibition, which commenced on Saturday, May 20 and concluded on Saturday, May 27, featured an array of captivating artworks encompassing paintings, sculptures, beadworks, and textiles. Alongside Chief Nike Okundaye, an esteemed figure in the art world, the event showcased the remarkable talents of Chief Jimoh Buraimoh, Chief Muraina Oyelanmi, Dele Fanijo Onibonokuta, Adeyinka Fabayo, Stephen Oni, Olori Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, Gbenga Ajiboye, Jide Batik, Abiodun Azeez, Taiwo Adeyeye, John Omidiran, and Omoge Alaro.
The exhibition served as a testament to Chief Nike Okundaye's immense contribution in promoting both traditional and contemporary African art over the span of five decades. Her tireless efforts have not only elevated the profile of Nigerian artists but have also played a significant role in preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Africa. The artworks on display showcased the diversity, creativity, and mastery of these talented artists, captivating the visitors and fostering a deeper appreciation for African art.
