Paraguay's public works minister resigns to join presidential race
Paraguay’s public works minister Arnoldo Wiens (pictured) presented his resignation on Tuesday to run in the ruling Partido Colorado presidential primary.
Wiens said on social media that current deputy minister Rodolfo Segovia will take over.
The primaries are scheduled for December 18, when Wiens will face former finance minister Santiago Peña.
Wiens stepped up after vice president Hugo Velázquez withdrew from the primaries amid serious corruption allegations by US authorities.
As public works minister, Wiens pushed a PPP agenda and oversaw the construction of the first section of the bioceanic highway, as well as the start of the construction of the second and third bridges linking the country with Brazil, and of the Asunción-Chaco'i bridge. Read More…
