PDP NWC Recognises New Leadership in Rivers
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially recognized the new leadership of the party in Rivers State, following a court ruling that removed the previous executive led by Aaron Chukwuemeka.
In a statement released on Thursday by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party confirmed the legitimacy of the Nname Robinson Ewor-led executive as the governing body for PDP in Rivers State. This decision aligns with the provisions of the party’s constitution, as amended in 2017.
The NWC expressed its appreciation for the court's ruling, which nullified the Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses conducted on July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024, respectively. The court's judgment, delivered on January 13, 2025, was acknowledged as a reaffirmation of the PDP's commitment to transparency and adherence to internal democracy.
The statement read: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) acknowledges receipt, has considered, and hereby accepts the judgment of the Rivers State High Court, which in Suit No. PHC/2301/CS/2024 nullified the Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses of our Party in Rivers State.”
The NWC urged all party leaders, stakeholders, and members to cooperate with the Ewor-led executive to ensure unity, stability, and the continued success of the PDP in Rivers State. The committee tasked the new leadership with fostering greater cohesion within the party, promoting growth, and strengthening the PDP’s position in the state.
“The NWC charges the Ewor-led Rivers State Executive to work hard to further unite the Party in the State so that the people of Rivers State can continue to enjoy the massive dividends of democracy as being delivered by our performing governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara,” the statement continued.
The NWC commended the steadfastness of PDP members in Rivers State, recognizing their unwavering belief in the party's ideals as a truly democratic and inclusive organization. The committee emphasized that the party is guided by the collective will, yearnings, and aspirations of the people.
As the PDP moves forward under the new leadership, the focus will be on ensuring that the party remains a strong force in Rivers State, committed to delivering on its promises and enhancing the welfare of its constituents.
