The Peruvian U-23 volleyball team was defeated by Mexico 3-0 in the Pan American Volleyball Cup, currently taking place at the Xalapa International Velodrome. With this loss, Peru finished second in Group B and will now face Chile in a crucial match for a spot in the semifinals.
The match against Mexico ended with scores of 25-23, 25-19, and 25-21 in favor of the Mexican team, who secured first place in the group and a direct qualification to the semifinals. Peru's next challenge is against Chile, set for Friday at 7 PM (Peruvian time). If Peru wins, they will advance to face the Dominican Republic on Saturday for a place in the final.
Meanwhile, Mexico awaits the winner of the quarterfinal match between Cuba and Nicaragua to determine their opponent in the semifinals.
Peru had already secured a place in the quarter-finals of the U-23 Pan American Cup, but a victory over Mexico would have allowed them to top Group B and move directly into the semifinals. Now, they must overcome Chile to keep their championship hopes alive.
