PM Orders Proactiveness in Diphtheria Prevention and Control
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed ministries, sectors, and localities to enhance their measures to prevent and control diphtheria following the recent occurrence of several infected cases and one death.
Diphtheria, a dangerous acute infectious disease, spreads through respiratory droplets and can lead to severe complications or death. However, it can be prevented through vaccination and treated effectively if detected early.
In an official dispatch addressed to the Ministers of Health, Education and Training, and Information and Communications; the General Directors of Vietnam Television (VTV), the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), and the Vietnam News Agency (VNA); and the Chairpersons of the People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities, Prime Minister Chinh emphasized the need for a coordinated and proactive approach:
Directives to the Ministry of Health
Strengthen Preventive Measures: The Ministry of Health is instructed to direct and guide the implementation of comprehensive measures to prevent and control diphtheria.
Early Detection and Handling: Actively oversee the early detection and handling of outbreaks.
Vaccination Programs: Organize vaccination campaigns to provide the best protection for public health.
Training Programs: Enhance capabilities in monitoring, diagnosing, and curing the disease through targeted training programs.
Directives to the Ministry of Education and Training
Sanitation Activities: Educational institutions must ensure clean and well-ventilated environments.
Health Monitoring: Implement health monitoring for children and students.
Timely Notification: Promptly notify healthcare facilities upon suspicion of disease for timely quarantine and treatment.
Directives to Local Authorities
Public Awareness: Chairpersons of the People’s Committees in provinces and centrally-run cities are required to encourage people to follow health recommendations.
Symptom Monitoring: Guide the public to seek immediate medical attention if they exhibit symptoms of the disease.
Resource Allocation: Ensure the availability of vaccines, medicine, equipment, and supplies.
Inspection and Supervision: Strengthen inspection and examination efforts to oversee prevention and control measures effectively.
Prime Minister Chinh emphasized the necessity of maintaining vigilance over the disease's situation, ensuring readiness with resources, and reinforcing public health measures to safeguard the health and lives of citizens.
