Ringwood School forced to close to pupils except those with exams due to traveller encampment
A school in Ringwood has been forced to close to pupils today (Tuesday) except for those sitting exams due to an unauthorised traveller encampment.
Ringwood School said in an email to parents that all students would be required to work remotely, except for Year 11 and 13 students, whose exams would go ahead as normal.
Around nine caravans and vehicles have pitched up at Carvers Recreation Ground, with a few parked alongside the school's tennis courts.
A statement from Ringwood School said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances the security of our site has been breached and unfortunately this presents a safeguarding risk which means that we need to operate differently today, Tuesday 24th May.
"All students will be working remotely today. Year 11 and Year 13 public exams will go ahead as normal.
"Parents have been notified of these emergency arrangements and we will be in touch again later today as the situation evolves."
A spokesperson for Hampshire police said: "We have been made aware of an unauthorised encampment on Parsonage Barn Lane, which includes Carver Recreational Ground and Ringwood School. They arrived yesterday (23rd May) just before 8pm. Read More...
