Romanian Artist Saddo to Participate in Balkan Edition of Pictoplasma Festival in Varna
Renowned Romanian artist Raul Oprea, better known by his artistic alias Saddo, has been invited to take part in the second Balkan edition of the Pictoplasma festival for contemporary art, design, and illustration. This event is scheduled to take place from September 6 to 8 in Varna, Bulgaria.
Saddo is celebrated for his diverse range of work, including solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Thailand, the USA, and Denmark. He has also made a significant impact in the street art scene, decorating walls in major projects across three continents. His distinctive style and contributions to contemporary art have earned him an international reputation.
The Pictoplasma festival, originally based in Berlin, is renowned for showcasing contemporary character design and art. Saddo’s invitation to the Balkan edition marks a notable inclusion of regional talent in this prestigious event. The festival provides a platform for artists to display their work, engage in workshops, and share their creative journeys.
Saddo expressed his excitement about participating in the festival: "I didn't know there was a Balkan edition of the festival. I knew the original from Berlin since I lived there in 2008. I have always admired this festival and I was happy that it was happening in the Balkans," he told the Bulgarian News Agency BTA.
During the festival, Saddo will be involved in several activities:
- Talk Session: He will present his evolution as an artist, detailing his journey from graduating in Cluj and engaging in street art to his current status in the art world.
- Workshop: Saddo will conduct a workshop in collaboration with Habitat Pottery, providing participants with hands-on experience and insights into his artistic process.
Saddo is known for his unique technique of drawing with two hands. Explaining this, he said, "I always preferred to draw or write with my left hand, but in school, my teachers 'corrected' me and made me write with my right hand. So I write with my right, but I kept my original impulse to do things with my left."
Saddo’s participation in the Balkan edition of the Pictoplasma festival underscores his significant role in contemporary art and design. His presence at the festival will not only enrich the event but also inspire attendees with his unique artistic journey and techniques.
