Scientists Discover Organic Compounds in Martian Meteorite Found in Morocco
The martian meteorite known as Tissint is part of the five martian meteorites that have fallen to Earth since 1815.
Scientific researchers disclosed that Tissint, a martian meteorite that fell in Morocco in July 2011 exhibits organic compounds.
On January 11, academic journal Science Advances published the discovery, in which researchers reported a “huge organic diversity in the Tissint Mars meteorite.”
Only five observed martian meteorites have been recorded since 1815, with an average fall every 50 years, Science Advances explained.
“The Tissint meteorite is the most recent martian meteorite observed in the fall (July 2011) near the city of Tissint in Morocco.”
Results from researchers' studies showed that the Tissint martian meteorite exhibits exceptional organic molecular diversity.
The research by an international team of experts was marked by the participation of Hasnaa Chennaoui Aoudjehanem professor at the Moroccan University at the Faculty of Sciences Ain Chock, a press release from Hassan II University of Casablanca detailed. Read More…
