We cannot say that Portugal is a huge country in terms of size, but one thing is certain: we always find space to host restaurants with foreign dishes. Gastronomy different from ours does not scare us, on the contrary, something that is reflected in the profusion of concepts with specialties from all over the world that we find throughout the national territory. Variety is found both in big cities and in smaller environments. You can easily go to an Italian, a place with Middle Eastern or Indian food. However, there is a trend that has continued for a good couple of years, with some spikes in interest, as we have seen in recent months. We are talking about the preference for Asian food and, more specifically, for sushi restaurants.
Since the beginning of the year, new establishments specializing in these dishes have appeared, all over the country. There are news in Entroncamento, Algarve, Sintra, Porto and, of course, in the capital. Although everyone focuses on the Japanese specialty, the concepts are different.
On the Sky Bar terrace, located at the Tivoli Carvoeiro Algarve Resort, you will find a restaurant that offers a multi-sensory experience thanks to the idyllic backdrop offered by the sea and gardens and the ambient sound of the birds and the music that passes by. The organic-inspired decor is influenced by the shapes and textures of nature. And the bet on natural materials and games of shadow and light gives a feeling of lightness, fluidity and continuity to the space, key characteristics of oriental culture. The menu was designed by sushi chef Arisio Junior and offers numerous traditional sushi offerings, such as the classic nigiris (from €5), uramakis (from €12) and hossomakis (from €10).
In the north, more specifically in Porto, is Tokko. There, the seats are distributed mainly on the counters, offering you an atmosphere similar to that of typical Japanese taverns. The menu includes proposals such as ebiten uramaki (€12), tuna hossomaki (€6), white fish hossomaki with umeboshi (€6), maguro temaki (€8), shrimp temaki (€10) and sashimi of tuna (10€).
