Sweden to Host World Cup Round in 2027
Sweden is set to welcome the world’s top orienteers in 2027, as it hosts one of the year’s World Cup Rounds in the Hälsingland region. The event will feature three forest races: Long, Middle, and Relay, taking place in the picturesque forests surrounding the town of Alfta. The preliminary dates for these exciting races are scheduled for June 3-6, 2027.
Henrik Eliasson, CEO of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF), expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming World Cup, stating, “We are looking forward to the World Cup coming to Sweden again and are impressed by how the Swedish Orienteering Federation increases the visibility of orienteering through hosting international events like these. We feel certain that the organizers will deliver a world-class event with both excellent sporting competitions and great spectator experiences.”
This World Cup Round marks the beginning of a new era for the event, as the IOF will take on the management and development of the competition with strong support from various organizations, including the Verein Swiss Cup in Switzerland, Svensk Orientering Events AB in Sweden, and the Czech Orienteering Federation. All parties have expressed interest in organizing recurring World Cup Rounds in the future.
In addition to the 2027 event, the Orienteering World Cup will kick off this year in Idre Fjäll, Sweden, featuring three forest races from June 19-22. Following that, Skara-Lidköping, Sweden, will host three sprint races from May 28-31, 2026.
With these events, Sweden continues to solidify its reputation as a premier destination for orienteering, showcasing its beautiful landscapes and commitment to promoting the sport on an international stage.
