Targeted Cash Transfer Program Set To Benefit 7.5 Million Filipinos
Around 7.5 million Filipinos are set to benefit from the Targeted Cash Transfer (TCT) program implemented by the government, thanks to additional funds allocated by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
Secretary Rex Gatchalian of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced on Friday that the agency is fully prepared to facilitate PHP500 cash transfers to assist millions of beneficiaries in coping with the persistent impacts of high inflation.
The DBM recently approved a Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) of PHP7.6 billion on Tuesday to sustain the DSWD-TCT program.
Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Romel Lopez expressed, "The DSWD has established effective mechanisms for the timely implementation of the TCT program. With this supplementary funding, we aim to provide support to our fellow countrymen for their daily sustenance."
It should be noted that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directed the relevant agencies to continue implementing the TCT program to aid vulnerable and underprivileged citizens who are in dire need of government assistance.
Gatchalian conveyed the department's gratitude to the TCT Inter-Agency Committee, composed of the DSWD, DBM, the Department of Finance, and the National Economic Development Authority, for prioritizing the budget allocation to sustain the program's continuous implementation.
Digital Transformation
Meanwhile, Gatchalian highlighted the significance of the digital transformation initiative, which will enable the DSWD to become a more agile and innovative organization, better equipped to meet the needs of its beneficiaries and stakeholders.
He emphasized the DSWD's substantial progress in embracing this new technology, which he described as a "game changer."
"We recognize that our success hinges upon the talent we bring on board. We are committed to providing an environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Our aim is to attract exceptional individuals who share our vision and are dedicated to making a positive impact on people's lives," explained Gatchalian.
Driving the digitalization efforts is the DSWD's Information and Communications Technology Management Services (ICTMS).
Julius Gorospe, the head of ICTMS, stated that digitalization will streamline the department's operations and enhance service delivery.
"This initiative is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to accelerate digitalization across all government agencies," said Gorospe, who also serves as the Special Assistant to the Secretary for E-Governance and Digital Infrastructure.
Gorospe further mentioned that the DSWD's digital transformation encompasses the entire organization, from frontline service delivery to backend support functions.
"The department is embracing modern technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data analytics to foster agility and responsiveness to the people's needs," Gorospe added.
