Tasmanian Government Orders Review into Education System
The Tasmanian government has announced a comprehensive review of the state's education system, aiming to enhance educational outcomes for all students. Education Minister Hon. Jo Palmer highlighted the necessity of this review to ensure that Tasmanian children and young people achieve the bright futures they deserve.
Experienced educator Ms. Vicki Baylis has been appointed to lead the review. With a career spanning over 40 years in education in both Queensland and the Northern Territory, Ms. Baylis brings extensive expertise to this role. Her tenure in the Northern Territory saw notable increases in student participation, progression, and achievement, particularly among marginalized and Indigenous students. Known for her practical implementation of evidence-based approaches, Ms. Baylis has a track record of driving systemic improvement on a large scale.
The review will take into account Tasmania's demographic profile, socio-economic characteristics, and the interconnectedness of all education levels. It will also draw on lessons from other regions. The objective is to create a future-focused plan to improve Tasmania’s education system, with a particular emphasis on literacy and numeracy outcomes over the next decade.
The review is set to be completed by the end of 2024, with a detailed report to be presented to the government.
