Taxpayers Union-Curia poll points towards National-ACT government
According to the most recent Taxpayers Union-Curia poll, ACT may secure 16 seats and potentially form a government in coalition with National. This poll shows an increase of 3.2 percentage points for ACT compared to the previous survey, bringing their support to 12.7 percent, almost equivalent to Labour's loss of 3.1 percentage points, dropping their support to 33.8 percent. National's support decreased by 0.9 points to 35.6 percent, while the Greens gained 0.3 points to 7 percent and Te Pāti Māori gained 0.8 points to 3.7 percent.
If this outcome were to materialize, National would have 46 seats and ACT 16, resulting in a combined 62 seats, sufficient to form a government. Meanwhile, Labour would have 44 seats, the Greens would have nine, and Te Pāti Māori would have five, assuming they won an electorate seat.
The poll also shows that the favorability rating of Labour leader Chris Hipkins dropped by six points to +22 percent, down 11 points from his peak of +33 percent in March. National's Christopher Luxon's score also fell by one point to -7 percent, his lowest rating since he became the leader. ACT leader David Seymour's favorability also decreased significantly by five points to -11 percent.
Among parties outside of Parliament, New Zealand First's poll results remained unchanged at 2.6 percent, while The Opportunities Party (TOP) gained 0.9 points to 1.7 percent. The New Conservatives lost 0.1 percent of their support, bringing their total to 1.6 percent, while Democracy NZ fell 1.3 points to 0.3 percent.
The survey involved 1000 eligible voters and was conducted between May 2 and May 7. Out of these, 800 were contacted by phone, while 200 were reached through an online panel. The weighted results of the survey have a sampling error of +/-3.1 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.
