Asante Kotoko put on a remarkable display away from home, securing a narrow 1-0 victory against Accra Lions, who are fighting to avoid relegation. The match took place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The pivotal moment came in the first half when Sarfo Taylor's well-executed header found the back of the net, granting Kotoko all three points. This win solidified their fourth-place position on the league table, with only one game remaining in the season.
Accra Lions experienced their seventh defeat in their last nine matches, making the final day of the season a crucial one for them. They will need to secure maximum points against Bibiani Gold Stars to escape relegation.
The first half of the game was a captivating spectacle, with both teams showcasing an exciting brand of one-touch football. However, it was the Porcupine Warriors who created the majority of scoring opportunities.
Enock Morrison, Kotoko's winger, had an excellent chance to give his team the lead early in the game. Unfortunately, he failed to convert from close range, sending his shot over the crossbar.
Midway through the first half, Kotoko deservedly took the lead. Boadu delivered a superb cross into the penalty box, finding an unmarked Georges Mfegue. Mfegue's header struck the crossbar, but Sarfo was alert to capitalize on the rebound and secure the goal.
Accra Lions struggled to make an impact in the attacking third, with their chances often going astray. They failed to truly test Kotoko goalkeeper Moise Pouaty.
The second half witnessed an intense battle, as Accra Lions pushed forward in search of an equalizer. They showed composure in the final third, but Pouraty, Kotoko's goalkeeper, made a series of brilliant saves to deny their opponents.
Despite a late surge of pressure from the home side, Accra Lions couldn't find the elusive equalizer. Kotoko held on firmly to secure all three points at the conclusion of the match.
