‘Terrifier 3’: Horror Sequel Set for Czech Cinema Release After Schedule Change
Art the Clown is finally making his way to Czech cinemas! The highly anticipated horror sequel Terrifier 3 has been officially added to the latest release schedule from the Czech Film Distributors Union, with a premiere date set for November 28, courtesy of distributor Vertigo International.
This marks the first theatrical release of writer-director Damien Leone's trilogy in the Czech Republic. Initially slated for release by Vertical Entertainment, the film was removed from their schedule this summer but has now found a new home with Vertigo.
Set during the Christmas season, Terrifier 3 follows Sienna Shaw (played by Lauren LaVera) as she attempts to rebuild her life following the traumatic events of Terrifier 2. Meanwhile, the notorious Art the Clown (portrayed by David Howard Thornton) returns, this time accompanied by a new accomplice, the possessed Victoria Heyes (played by Samantha Scaffidi), as they embark on another gruesome killing spree. Like its predecessors, the film is expected to feature over-the-top gore effects, which have already led to numerous walkouts in theaters.
The unrated horror film has made waves at the U.S. box office, debuting at #1 with an impressive $21.5 million (approximately CZK 500 million) in its opening weekend. It has continued to perform well, currently holding a total U.S. gross of $36.2 million (around CZK 850 million) to date, placing it ahead of major studio releases like Joker: Folie à Deux and Transformers One this fall.
This level of box office success is unprecedented for a film that has not been submitted to the MPA (formerly MPAA), as major chains have historically been reluctant to screen unrated films. Previous unrated films that have found success at the U.S. box office include George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead.
Vertigo International is a relatively new player in the Czech film distribution scene, having previously released low-budget horror films such as Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and The Mouse Trap.
Terrifier 3 will be released in Czech cinemas on November 28, coinciding with major releases like Disney’s Moana 2, the Michael Keaton–Mila Kunis drama Goodrich, and the Czech comedy Radost na dosah.
Additionally, the film may have a Czech connection through its soundtrack, which features Christmas classics like Silent Night, Jingle Bells, O Come All Ye Faithful, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. According to unverified sources, the versions of these songs in the film are performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic, although an official song list has yet to be released.
Fans of the horror genre can look forward to a thrilling and bloody holiday season with the arrival of Terrifier 3 in Czech cinemas!
