Thai Boxer Janjaem Brings Home the Bronze
Despite a tough match against her Algerian opponent, Thai boxer Janjaem Suwannapheng secured the bronze medal in this year's Olympic Games held in Paris, France.
Janjaem will receive a reward from the National Sports Development Fund, which offers her a choice between a one-off payment of 4 million baht or 4.8 million baht in instalments.
Janjaem faced Imane Khelif in the welterweight tournament semifinals. Although Janjaem put up a strong fight, Khelif ultimately triumphed with a flawless performance, winning the match 5-0. Khelif's skill and dominance in all three rounds secured her a place in the final.
Imane Khelif and Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting had faced potential disqualification by the International Boxing Association due to sex chromosome tests. However, the International Olympic Committee dismissed these tests as arbitrary, allowing both boxers to compete.
Janjaem’s achievement brings Thailand's medal count at the Paris Olympics to two, highlighting the country's competitive presence on the international stage. Her bronze medal win is a testament to her dedication, skill, and resilience, inspiring future generations of Thai athletes.
