The 10 highest-grossing Egyptian films of all time
The blockbuster Egyptian film Kira & El Gin, the latest from acclaimed director Marwan Hamed, has officially becoming the highest grossing film in the history of Egyptian cinema.
The film, which has garnered huge approval from critics and audiences alike, has achieved the feat in just six weeks, after premiering on June 30th in Egypt before opening across the region.
With Kira & El Gin the new number one, here’s a countdown of the other top 10 films in Egyptian box office history.
1. Kira & El Gin

Based on Ahmed Mourad’s novel “1919”, the epic war drama chronicles Egypt’s resistance against British rule in the early days of the 20th century. It depicts the role of the Egyptian uprising through the lives of diverse characters that include famous and obscure historical figures as well as fictional characters. The film just became the highest grossing film in Egyptian history with a box office revenue of EGP 104,174,182. It features an all-star cast consisting of Karim Abdel Aziz, Ahmed Ezz, Sayed Ragab, Hend Sabry, Asma Abul Yazeid, Ahmed Malek, Huda El Mufti, Aly Kassem and others.
Karim Abdel Aziz plays doctor Ahmed Abdel Hay who goes by the nickname Ahmed Kira. A real person who was present during the British occupation.
2. Blue Elephant 2

Directed by Marwan Hamed, the mystery thriller film also stars Karim Abdel Aziz who portrays Dr. Yehia Rashed who receives the shock of his life when a new inmate in the psychiatric hospital prophesies that the death of the doctors family is only three days away.
