The 22nd Belgrade Dance Festival Starts Soon
The 22nd Belgrade Dance Festival is set to take place from March 7 to April 15, showcasing an impressive array of performances across multiple stages in Belgrade, as well as in Novi Sad and Subotica. This year’s festival, themed “We Speak Through Dance,” promises to be a vibrant celebration of movement and expression, featuring dance companies from ten different countries.
The festival will host troupes from a diverse range of cities, including Beirut, Jerusalem, Rome, Tokyo, Grenoble, Athens, Lyon, Reggio Emilia, Adelaide, Wuppertal, Kalamata, Milan, Saint-Nazaire, London, Brussels, Naples, and Madrid. This international representation highlights the festival's commitment to showcasing the richness and diversity of contemporary dance.
According to Aja Jung, the festival’s founder and director, this year’s edition will feature several highly anticipated performances. Among the highlights is the renowned Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, along with celebrated ballet stars such as Roberto Bolle, Nicoletta Mani, Maia Makhateli, and Timofey Andriushchenko. Bolle, a world-renowned Italian dancer, will take the stage on March 16 at the Sava Centre, marking a significant moment in the festival.
The festival will kick off with a three-day performance by Omar Rajeh at the Balkan Cinema from March 7 to 9, followed by a two-day performance by the Jerusalem-based Vertigo Dance Company at the National Theatre in Belgrade. France will present four companies, including Rajeh’s troupe, which relocated to Lyon in 2018.
One of the festival's standout moments will be the world premiere of Konstantinos Rigos’ new work, "The Golden Age," performed by the National Opera Ballet of Greece. This performance will take place in Novi Sad on April 12, further emphasizing the festival's role as a platform for new and innovative choreography.
In addition to Italy's representation through Bolle and three other companies from Naples, Rome, and Reggio Emilia, the festival will feature dance companies from Greece, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Belgium, Germany, Spain, and Israel. Each company will bring its unique style and perspective, contributing to the festival's theme of innovation and bold steps forward in contemporary dance.

With a rich lineup of performances and a diverse array of international talent, this year’s festival is set to captivate audiences and inspire dancers and enthusiasts alike.
