The Heiresses
Chela, an introverted individual, and Chiquita, an outgoing personality, both hail from affluent families in Asunción, Paraguay. Their enduring relationship spans over three decades. However, when their financial situation takes a nosedive, they resort to selling their inherited assets. Regrettably, the proceeds fall short of their mounting debts. Consequently, Chiquita finds herself incarcerated on fraud charges, leaving Chela to confront a new and unfamiliar reality.
After years of abstaining from driving, Chela reluctantly takes the wheel once again and begins offering taxi services to a group of elderly, well-to-do ladies in her local community. As she settles into this new vocation, she forms a deep bond with the much younger Angy, an experience that revitalizes her after years of complacency alongside Chiquita. Chela, at long last, starts to shed her inhibitions and actively engages with the world, embarking on a personal and intimate revolution of her own. Marcelo Martinessi, the writer-director, presents his debut feature film, which premiered at the 2018 Berlin Film Festival. The film delves into the exploration of adult identity and emphasizes that breaking free from one's comfort zone is a possibility at any stage in life.
