Diego Moncayo , the Ecuadorian student who remained since the beginning of the war in an area of ​​intense bombing by the Russian army in Ukraine , arrived on the afternoon of March 21, 2022 at the Mariscal Sucre airport in Quito.
The young man arrived accompanied by the mission that was sent by the Foreign Ministry to Ukraine to provide assistance in the conflict zone and was chaired by Luis Vayas, Deputy Minister of Human Mobility.
“The last Foreign Ministry contingent that traveled from Quito to the border area with Ukraine arrived , and with them Diego Moncayo , an Ecuadorian who managed to leave Shotska. Thank you for his immense work and his commitment to our compatriots. Mission accomplished”, the foreign minister, Juan Carlos Holguín, posted on his Twitter account.
Janeth Mendoza, Diego 's mother, thanked the authorities for their efforts.
Luis Vayas explained that the latest record of the Foreign Ministry is that there were 913 Ecuadorians in Ukraine . Of these, 711 returned to the country; 657 are Ecuadorians, and the rest are foreigners, relatives, spouses and children of Ukrainians.
