The Ministry of Science and ICT launches brain bank designation system
To secure more resources for scientists who study the human brain, the Science Ministry is going to introduce a new designation of "brain bank" for institutions that can properly store and manage human specimens.
The Ministry said Monday that the brain bank designation is in support of brain research to address the increasing social costs of brain-related disorders such as dementia and depression.
Currently, South Korea has 12 facilities that collect and manage human brain resources.
To be designated a brain bank, institutions would have to adopt guidelines on the ethical use of human specimens and prove they meet the requirements in terms of personnel, facilities and business plan. Read More…
