By design, science fiction and action series bring the viewer to the edge of their seat, waiting eagerly to wait what happens next. These are the series that leaves the audience breathless by the end, swept up as they have been by the actions unfolding on screen. The year 2022 has already been a great year for such dramas and, given the release slate of many of the major streamers and studios, it seems more than likely that the trend will continue.

Ahsoka
Not Yet Streaming

From the moment that she appeared in The Clone Wars, Ahsoka made it clear she was going to be one of the best characters in Star Wars canon. Fierce and independent, when she appears in The Mandalorian, she clearly bears the scars of her past (and that of the Galaxy more generally).
Though there haven’t been many details released just yet on what her own show will look like, it’s more than likely that it will feature her pursuing Grand Admiral Thrawn (himself one of the great villains of the series), and given the history of Star Wars television, viewers should expect quite a few fan-favorites to show up too.

Naomi
Streaming On FuboTV

There have been many great series based on superheroes, and though it only lasted one season, Naomi should still be regarded as a standout. Focusing on the titular Naomi, a comic book fan who discovers her own supernatural powers, this series has much that makes it worth recommending.
Not only is it very exciting, but it was also co-created by Ava DuVernay, one of today’s finest directors who is responsible for many great movies and TV shows. What’s more, its style quickly captures the viewer and keeps them engrossed from the first episode to the last, and given its short run, it's incredibly binge-able.

Halo
Streaming On Paramount+

Many video games have been adapted into strong TV series, but Halo quickly shows that it is one of the best of this particular genre. Revolving around the conflict between humans and a confederation of aliens who exist under a theocratic organization, it manages to capture the various elements that made the video game so widely successful.
While it does take some liberties with the established canon, it also features some strong writing and powerful performances from its leading cast, suggesting that it has what it takes to continue bringing this story to life.
7
The Boys
Streaming On Prime

From the moment it premiered, it was clear that The Boys had something important to say about the golden age of superhero movies and TV shows. Unlike many other series, which assume that the superheroes are the good guys, The Boys shows them as nothing more than the corrupt employees of powerful corporations.
The series is also notable for its biting sense of humor, as well as the dynamic performances of its cast, especially Karl Urban as Butcher and Antony Starr as Homelander. Once the action starts in this series, it never eases up.

The Orville
Streaming On Hulu

When it began, The Orville was something of a parody of other similar space sagas, particularly various entries in the Star Trek franchise. However, it very quickly started to demonstrate that it was something magical all on its own, and it managed to rise above merely being an homage to its predecessors. Read More...
