The red panda was born in the Silesian Zoological Garden in Chorzà³w! This is the third child of Laysa and Ping
The Silesian Zoological Garden announced about the birth of the red panda. The toddler was born on June 16. With any luck, he can already be seen on the runway when vigilant mom carries him from a treehouse to a nearby lair. This is the third offspring of Laysa and Ping. The first two pandas - Lapi and Oshi - already live in other gardens. "This is our contribution to the protection of this species" - says Daria Kroczek from the Chorzów zoo.
The red panda is an endangered species. Their number around the world is dropping drastically, which is why every toddler born in zoos is extremely important - explains Daria Kroczek from the Silesian Zoological Garden in Chorzów.
Although the toddler was born on June 16, the mother did not allow anyone to see her child for the first three weeks. Only this week was it possible to photograph a baby panda.
- He is under the constant care of his mother, who moves him from the treehouse to a nearby lair. With a bit of luck, if you hit the moment of carrying, you can see a little panda with your own eyes - says Daria Kroczek.
Red pandas are born gray. Initially, they are blind and deaf. Over time, their senses develop and their hair turns red. Only after about 9 weeks do the little ones start to leave the nest. For now, Laysa is taking care of the young ones, and Ping's dad is not involved in the upbringing. It is not yet known what gender the baby panda is.
- We do not want to stress neither the mother nor the child with additional trapping. When the toddler is about three months old, he will start to be more independent and then we will be able to find out if he is a boy or a girl - explains Daria Kroczek.
Once it is possible to find out what gender your toddler is, then they will also be given a name. Read More…
