These qualities characterize a good boss
Good managers are in great demand because their actions can influence the success of the company. During the application, interview and assessment, you will be scrutinized accordingly. According to top headhunter Erik Wirz (54) from Wirz & Partners in Zug, the main question asked is technical skills. But soft skills are just as important. "Intelligence quotient (IQ) with a strong emotional intelligence quotient (EQ) is the combination that is in demand today," says the expert.
Technical tasks can be solved by technical experts - it is much more complex to solve challenges on a human level. And after two years of home office and many employees who question themselves and the meaning of their job, these are more important than ever.
Take over the «hot potato»
According to Wirz, communication is the be-all and end-all. Something bothers you, nobody says it, everyone pushes the problem on? A leader must take the "hot potato" in hand and address the problem openly. Wirz is certain: "The employees will thank their bosses - and they will do so with confidence!"
Create a fan base
According to the headhunter, there are many specialists, but not everyone is suitable for a manager. "A manager does not necessarily have to be as top professional as his or her employees - as long as he or she has the ability to motivate the team and keep it in the company," explains Wirz. Anyone who manages to get others enthusiastic about their own cause and to pull them along knows how to use their EQ correctly.
To listen carefully
According to Wirz, it's important to show genuine interest and not ask "How are you?" move on to the agenda. «Employees can feel whether someone is really listening and is interested in the emotional state of the other person. The days of egotistical power players on the executive floor are over,” warns the headhunter.
Do not hang the «Code of Conduct» on the wall
The Code of Conduct is a code that contains important rules of conduct for employees. According to Wirz, you shouldn't just hang this code of conduct on the wall, you should live it yourself. «Ethical and moral principles are only as good as the behavior of your own boss during the exit interview. If this is done in a fair and friendly manner, a potential long-term ambassador is gained for the company,” says the expert. Read More…
