They report inflation of 1.4% at the end of February
The Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) reported that inflation in February 2022, measured by the variation in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 1.4%, higher than the rate of 0.1 % observed in the same month of the previous year.
The bulletin details that, with this result, the accumulated inflation in the year amounts to 2.8%, above the 0.6% verified in the same period of the year 2021. The year-on-year inflation was 9.3%, higher than the variation of 7.9% registered in the month of January of the current year, and also higher than the rate of 2.5% indicated in the month of February of last year.
On the other hand, it is pointed out that core inflation showed a lower monthly variation rate compared to total inflation (0.5%). Thus, year-on-year inflation measured by this indicator reached a rate of 5.6%, higher than the variation of 5.1% registered in the month of January of the current year, and also above the rate of 1.9% verified in the month of February of the year 2021.
The inflationary level for the month of February of the year 2022 responds to the increases verified mainly in food, fuel and services related to education, which exhibited the highest inflationary incidence. Likewise, increases were observed in durable goods, and in other services of the basket.
Within food, the increase in prices of bakery products stands out, related to the increase in flour prices that respond to the upward pressure of international wheat prices. In this segment, price increases were also observed in dairy products, sugar, oils and eggs. Read More…
