From the Electoral Justice they reported that the number of voters abroad is not very high and they estimate that it is due to the lack of interest in voting. They mentioned that the process to be registered in the voters register is not a complicated step.
Officials from the institution even went to Argentina, where there is a large Paraguayan migration, with the aim of registering them, however, the result was not what was expected.
“I think that it does not happen so much because of the difficulty but because of the interest. Officials went to register Argentina and there was not much participation. You have to look for the reasons why there are few registered, we looked for the facilities for the people but we did not have many results, the registration online is not difficult, even the consulates help with that, "said José Loreto Ovelar, coordinator of the votes abroad of the Superior Court of Electoral Justice (TSJE).
He said that in Argentina 31,300 voters are eligible for the April 30 elections, however, it is estimated that the number of Paraguayans residing in that country even reaches one million, which is why the reason why these compatriots decided to not exercise their right to vote.
He added that the registration process is very simple, since it is only a matter of completing an application, and later, the Electoral Justice officials contact the voter to verify their identity, as well as other information.
In total there are 41,502 Paraguayan voters residing abroad qualified to vote on April 30. Argentina is where the largest number of voters are, followed by Spain, where there are 7,200 registered.
