Thomas Brezzo, Carrying Monaco’s Unique Voice in Europe
President of the National Council, Thomas Brezzo, represented the Principality of Monaco at the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament held in Strasbourg on March 20 and 21. This event provided a platform for Monaco to reinforce its diplomatic position amid growing geopolitical tensions in Europe.
During the conference, the Monegasque delegation actively engaged in discussions centered around three critical issues: safeguarding democracy, ensuring freedom of expression in polarized environments, and addressing violence against political figures. Brezzo took this opportunity to reaffirm Monaco’s steadfast commitment to democratic values and the rule of law, while also expressing solidarity with Ukraine in its ongoing struggles.
Strategic Bilateral Trade Initiatives
In conjunction with the official summit, Brezzo and his delegation participated in several bilateral meetings with representatives from Iceland, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Belgium. The primary goal of these discussions was to foster new parliamentary collaborations, particularly through the establishment of working groups focused on shared interests. A significant topic of interest was the role of artificial intelligence in the legislative process, a subject that was elaborated upon by Cédric Braquetti, General Secretary, alongside representatives from other nations.
Enhancing Parliamentary Diplomacy
President Brezzo also took the opportunity to engage with several prominent counterparts, including Yaël Braun-Pivet from the French National Assembly, Dalibor Riccardi from the San Marino Parliament, and Greg Fergus from the Canadian Parliament. These discussions allowed for the exchange of ideas regarding Monaco’s unique institutional characteristics and its current legislative initiatives.
This diplomatic mission is part of a broader strategy initiated by Thomas Brezzo, aimed at enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation and amplifying Monaco’s distinctive voice within the European community. This approach underscores the Principality’s determination to actively participate in key contemporary debates and contribute to the shaping of policies that affect the region.
Through his participation in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament, Thomas Brezzo has not only strengthened Monaco’s diplomatic ties but also positioned the Principality as a proactive player in European discussions. By focusing on collaboration and shared legislative interests, Monaco is poised to make a significant impact on the international stage.
