Trolls beware! Instagram launches new tools to limit BULLYING on the platform

In the hopes of preventing bullying on its platform, Instagram has launched a range of new tools.
The anti-bullying features include new comment filters on live videos, kindness camera effects and AI systems to automatically detect bullying in photos.
In a blog announcing the update, Adam Mosseri, the new Head of Instagram, said: “There is no place for bullying on Instagram.
“If people see that kind of hurtful behaviour on our platform, they can report it and we remove it.
“But online bullying is complex, and we know we have more work to do to further limit bullying and spread kindness on Instagram.”
The first new feature is an AI system that can automatically detect bullying in photos.
Mr Mosseri explained: “We are now using machine learning technology to proactively detect bullying in photos and their captions and send them to our Community Operations team to review.”
Next, is a new bullying comment filter on live videos.
This is something that was introduced on Feed, Explore and Profile a few months ago, but has now been added to live videos, in the hopes of deterring trolls.
Finally, is a new ‘Kindness Camera Effect’, which has been developed with dancer, Maddie Ziegler.
When used in selfie mode, the filter adds hearts to your screen, and encourages you to tag a friend you want to support.
Those who already follow Maddie will have the camera effect automatically added to their filters, while others can type ‘try it’ to add it to their camera.
Mr Mosseri added: “There’s more work to do, and we will continue to do our part to protect the community so that you can safely be yourself on Instagram.”
