Une Bastholm resigns as MDG leader - Arild Hermstad takes over until further notice
MDG leader Une Bastholm resigns. She confirmed this in a post on Facebook on Wednesday morning .
At 11 o'clock she met the press during Arendalsuka. There, the message in the Facebook post was repeated.
This week will be her last as party leader, she says. Bastholm has been leader of the party since 2020.
"I would have liked to bring more pleasant news to all supporters, voters and members of the Green Party, but this morning I informed our National Board and central board that I wish to resign as party leader for personal reasons." she writes in the Facebook post.
She justifies her departure with regard to her two young children, whom she now wants to see more. Bastholm writes that she has acknowledged that she no longer has the time and energy required to lead the party. She feels "stretched", she writes.
"Just where I am now in life, it has become too much now to lead our party on top of the other two important jobs: being a mother and parliamentary representative for Akershus." she continues.
Bastholm emphasizes that her resignation as party leader does not mean that she will retire as a politician for the MDGs and as "an important voice for green, fair politics".
Bastholm elaborates on the background for her resignation in this interview with Aftenposten.
