Unilever to Close Ice Cream Production Facility in Bulgaria as Part of Restructuring Efforts
Unilever has announced the closure of its ice cream production facility located in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria. This decision is part of a broader strategy aimed at optimizing operations in anticipation of the demerger of its business unit, which is scheduled to take place by April 2025.
The production operations will be relocated from the Bulgarian site to other facilities within Unilever’s extensive network, including the Betty Ice plant in Suceava, Romania. This consolidation effort is designed to enhance production synergies and streamline operations across the region, allowing the company to maintain competitive efficiency while adapting to evolving market demands.
Unilever's commitment to sustainability and long-term viability is a key factor in this decision. According to company representatives, the transition aims to bolster the sustainable development of the division's operations, aligning with global trends towards more efficient and environmentally friendly manufacturing practices.
In a statement to FoodBev Media, Unilever emphasized, "This decision comes with the plan to facilitate production synergies and ensure sustainable development of the division operations for long-term future fit. Unilever will keep evaluating and monitoring its operations worldwide to ensure efficiency and sustainability."
Despite the closure of the Veliko Tarnovo facility, Unilever has assured stakeholders that the variety of ice cream products available to Bulgarian consumers will remain unchanged. The company plans to sustain its investment in the region, focusing on delivering popular products while also aiming to create a positive societal impact.
This restructuring move reflects Unilever's ongoing efforts to adapt to market changes and enhance operational efficiency while maintaining its commitment to sustainability and customer satisfaction.
