Venezuelan migrants in shock following fatal crash
A fatal crash in Brownsville has left many Venezuelan migrants in shock as they were seeking to achieve the American Dream. Most of the migrants who were involved in the tragic incident were from Venezuela, and it ended their dreams less than six miles from where they crossed into the United States. Reports from the Brownsville police indicate that seven people lost their lives, while ten others sustained injuries while waiting outside a bus stop.
Luis Herrera, a Venezuelan migrant who survived the accident, was at the bus stop on Sunday morning when a grey Range Rover drove into a crowd of people, including migrants who were waiting for a ride to the airport. Herrera stated that a lady approached in a white car and told them to separate, and shortly after, a car accelerated towards them and drove right through them. He explained that there were 20-25 people waiting for a bus when the incident occurred, and he was one of only three people who walked away from the crash.
The victims who lost their lives or sustained injuries in the accident were Herrera's travel companions during their long journey to the U.S. Herrera and other survivors are traumatized by the incident, and he wouldn't wish it on anyone. At least ten people were injured and taken to hospitals across the Rio Grande Valley.
The driver of the Range Rover was arrested and charged with reckless driving. However, police have not established the motive for the crash, but have ordered a toxicology report on the driver, which could take days or even weeks to get the results back. The Brownsville Public Information Officer, Martin Sandoval, said the driver is not cooperating with the police, and he has provided different names, making it challenging to identify him. Once the driver is in the city jail, he will be photographed and fingerprinted, and the prints will get run through the system to get an accurate ID.
In conclusion, the fatal crash in Brownsville has left many Venezuelan migrants in shock, and their American Dream was cut short. It is a tragic event that shows the risk that migrants undertake in search of a better life. We can only hope for a better future where such incidents do not occur.
