Viktória Traub’s "Shoes and Hooves" Qualifies for the Oscars
Viktória Traub’s animated short film “Shoes and Hooves” (“Cipők és paták”) has garnered significant acclaim, winning the Best Animated Film award at the Guanajuato International Film Festival in Mexico. This victory qualifies the Hungarian film for the 2025 Oscars in the Best Animated Short Film category.
About the Film
As described by the National Film Institute (NFI), “Shoes and Hooves” is set in a surreal, hybrid world inhabited by human-animal creatures. The film delves into themes of connection, conformity, and self-acceptance through its protagonist, Paula, a centaur-girl. Paula, who works as a pedicurist in a small town, dreams of having human feet. Her life takes a turn when she meets Arnold, a crocodile-man, and they fall in love at first sight. The film poses poignant questions: Will Paula be able to embrace her own identity? What is the cost of conformity and self-abandonment? These themes are brought to life through 2D animation.
