WhatsApp Beta Testing Status Update Mentions
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to tag contacts in their Status updates, similar to Instagram and Facebook. This feature, first spotted earlier this year, is now being rolled out to a few Android beta testers using version 2.24.20.3.
How Status Update Mentions Work
When a user tags a contact in their Status update, the mentioned person will receive a notification and can view the update even if their privacy settings are in place. The tag will remain private, and only the tagged contact will be notified. The mentioned person can also reshare the update using a button that appears next to the reply box.
Key Features of Status Update Mentions
- Private Tags: Tags stay private, and only the tagged contact receives a notification and can view the update.
- Reshare Option: Tagged contacts can reshare the update, but the original poster's identity remains hidden.
- Notification: Tagged contacts receive a notification, making it easier to connect with them.
This feature provides an easy way to keep certain contacts in the loop without filling up their chat history. It's a convenient way to share updates with specific contacts without having to send them a separate message.
There is no set release date for this feature yet, but it's expected to be available to more users worldwide once it's added to a stable release.
