5-day quarantine for COVID-19 patients in Slovakia no longer mandatory
As of March 20, mandatory five-day self-isolation for people who have tested positive for COVID-19 has been scrapped, according to a regulation issued by the Public Health Office (UVZ).
"The disease doesn't currently require mandatory isolation due to the currently circulating variants and the proportion of people who have recovered from COVID-19 and/or have been fully vaccinated," said Slovakia's chief hygienist Jan Mikas.
"In practice, this brings COVID-19 to the level of other acute respiratory diseases in which cases people protect themselves with regard to their own health as well as the health of vulnerable groups."
Nevertheless, Mikas noted that the decree concerning face masks on certain premises won't be scrapped for the time being, arguing that it is still relevant due to a high rate of respiratory diseases in the country. Face masks are currently mandatory for staff of and visitors to health-care and social services facilities, patients in doctor's waiting rooms and customers at pharmacies. Read More….
