Nokia has accomplished a successful trial of its Cloud RAN solution on A1 Group's commercial 5G network in Bulgaria. This trial, conducted in Sofia, involved the seamless execution of a complete 5G data call (Layer 3 call) using Nokia's Cloud RAN solution and AirFrame servers.
The trial aimed to assess the potential of Cloud RAN technology and its value in transitioning to cloud-based infrastructure for A1 Group, a European unit of America Movil. To validate the capabilities of the solution, a commercial 3GPP standard 5G SA device was employed during the trial.
According to the statement, Nokia's Cloud RAN virtualized distributed unit (vDU) successfully served radio cells at an impressive distance of over 15 kilometers. The trial also benefited from Nokia's suite of cloud deployment automation tools, contributing to enhanced operational efficiency throughout the process.
