Azerbaijani Swimmer Secures Silver at ISF U15 Gymnasiade
Azerbaijani swimmer Murad Mammadov has achieved a remarkable feat by winning a silver medal in the men's 200m freestyle at the 2025 ISF U15 Gymnasiade held in Serbia. Mammadov finished the race with a time of 2.28 minutes, showcasing his talent on an international stage.
The ISF U-15 World School Sport Games are taking place in Serbia from April 4 to 14, featuring a delegation of 192 Azerbaijani athletes competing in 18 different sports. These include artistic gymnastics, archery, 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, chess, tennis, badminton, para-badminton, swimming, para-swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, judo, wrestling, fencing, and athletics.
The World Gymnasiade, organized by the International School Sport Federation (ISF), is a prominent multi-sport event designed for individuals aged 13 to 18. The program includes twelve mandatory individual sports and five optional sports, which are selected by the organizing committee. The mandatory sports encompass archery, athletics, boxing, chess, fencing, gymnastics, judo, karate, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, and wrestling.
Since its inception in 1974 in Wiesbaden, Germany, where it featured only gymnastics, athletics, and swimming, the Gymnasiade has evolved significantly. The 2018 edition in Morocco set a record with over 3,000 young athletes from 58 countries, making it the largest international multi-sport event for youth in Africa. The most recent edition took place in May 2022 in Normandy, France.
Murad Mammadov's achievement adds to Azerbaijan's growing reputation in international sports, and his success at the Gymnasiade is a testament to the country's commitment to nurturing young athletic talent.
