Catholic private education: Sneecs threatens to disrupt the start of the new school year
Heavy clouds hang over private Catholic education in Senegal. Disturbances are likely to be recorded at the level of the 7 dioceses of the country. Moreover, these teachers were in conclave in Saly this Saturday, to look into the difficulties encountered by private Catholic education.
Facing the press, Ms. Diop Marie Yvette Keïta, the General Secretary of the National Union of Catholic School Teachers of Senegal, painted a bleak picture of private Catholic education. “Faced with this crisis which spares no one, our first demand is the increase in salaries aligned with the cost of living, with a revision of the salary grid. No one has heard us so far, but we've just been waiting for the moment and it's the right moment. Raising salaries is at the heart of our concerns today, because everyone at work feels the constraints of the cost of living. This is why we cannot avoid going through the revision of the salary grid. In a way, we are going towards a denunciation of the current salary scale for a salary increase”,
In addition to this concern, teachers in Catholic education have demanded an increase in the bonus from the National Office for Catholic Education in Senegal (Onecs), but also the granting of a research bonus. “Private Catholic teachers only receive one bonus, which is the Onecs bonus. This premium has not changed for 10 years. Since then, we have not touched this bonus. This is why we deemed it necessary for it to be upgraded. I think that's more than enough, it's time we sat down to discuss this bonus, see how to increase it to see what each diocese will have. We are also asking for the granting of a research allowance, ”says Ms. Diop.
In addition, the National Union of Catholic School Teachers of Senegal also calls for the regular repayment of social charges at the level of the Social Security Fund, Ipres and Ipm. “Here are three social institutions whose contributions and affiliation of all workers are compulsory by the employer. And that therefore, these social contributions must be paid to whom it may concern and at the appropriate time. There are huge delays, especially for Ipres, some of our retirees still can't get their money. We also want the repayment of these social security contributions to be made and respected. We ask that these retirement allowances, which have nothing to do with pensions, be paid on time and to whom it may concern, ”says François Xavier Sarr. Read More…
