Congress approves authorizing the JNE to extend the deadline to register a list of candidates in internal elections
The Congress of the Republic approved a substitute text which grants an exceptional term for the registration of the list of candidates for internal elections, within the framework of the 2022 Regional and Municipal Elections.
By 83 votes in favor, 30 against and 2 abstentions, the national representation gave the green light to the substitute text of the bill 1756, supported by the president of the Constitution Commission, Patricia Juárez (Popular Force).
The approved rule authorizes the National Elections Jury (JNE) to order the opening of the Jurisdictional Integrated File System (SIJE) Declara Internas for two days for the presentation or modification of candidate lists.
It also grants an exceptional period for holding complementary internal elections, in case the internal elections are not held on the indicated date, up to 10 days before the deadline for registration of candidates before the Special Electoral Juries (JEE) , in accordance with to the schedule prepared by the JNE.
“For the purposes of this regulation, political organization affiliation records are considered valid, both in physical and digital format, provided they have been submitted by January 5, 2022 ,” the document says.
This is a project presented by Congressman José Arriola Tueros (Popular Action) who argued that several organizations could not register due "to the great complexity of filling in the computer system . "
According to the JNE, some 148 political organizations have submitted 9,632 lists of candidates to the Declara Internas system to participate in the internal elections in May. Read More…
