easyJet Portugal Embarks on strike
According to an official source within the company, as reported by Lusa, only 40% of the scheduled crew members arrived at their respective airports today, indicating that approximately 60% of the workforce is participating in the strike. This level of adherence suggests that the strike has had a lesser impact compared to the midday stoppage on Friday, which saw approximately 70% participation.
Ricardo Penarroias, the president of the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC), confirmed in an interview with Lusa that the workers have fully joined the strike, reaching a 100% participation rate. He mentioned that 386 flights had been canceled by the company due to the strike, but emphasized that minimum services are still being provided.
"We continue to observe a complete adherence to the strike, as we have from the beginning. Despite the company's cancellation of 386 flights, we are respecting and carrying out the minimum services, although we don't necessarily agree with the concept," stressed Penarroias.
The main demands of the workers revolve around the improvement of salary and working conditions.
Earlier today, a gathering of easyJet cabin crew members took place at Porto's Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, where they displayed posters conveying messages such as "millionaire bonuses, precarious wages."
Penarroias informed us that 26 flights were canceled at this airport today, and a total of 72 flights were canceled throughout Portugal.
The easyJet cabin crew strike commenced on Friday and is set to continue on May 30th, June 1st, and June 3rd.
