Education Day celebration highlights recovery, Freedom in Learning

In 2022, we prove that we are no longer a follower, but a leader of the global recovery movement.

The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry held a ceremony at its headquarters in Jakarta on Friday to commemorate the 2022 National Education Day themed "Leading the Recovery, Striving for Freedom in Learning."

The national day is celebrated on May 2 annually. However, since the second day of the 2022 Eid Al-Fitr holiday fell on the same date, the commemoration of the 2022 National Education Day was postponed.

“(Being here) today is proof that we are much tougher than all challenges. We are not only able to get through (the COVID-19 pandemic) but are also capable of encouraging national recovery,” Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim remarked in his speech.

Makarim noted that during the pandemic, his side had striven to produce various breakthroughs by implementing the Freedom in Learning curriculum, which had encouraged various improvements in the education sector experienced by parents, teachers, and students.

The breakthroughs have been brought to the notice of other countries through Indonesia’s 2022 G20 Presidency.

"In 2022, we prove that we are no longer a follower, but a leader of the global recovery movement," the minister, dressed in traditional attire of Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, stated.

During the pandemic, the ministry provided the Freedom in Learning curriculum to facilitate teachers and students in conducting learning activities.

The attempt has been able to reduce the impact of learning loss. Currently, the curriculum is being implemented in over 140 thousand educational units throughout Indonesia.

"It means that hundreds of thousands of Indonesian children will learn in a much more fun and liberating way," Makarim emphasized.

The same spirit is also displayed by the cultural actors, who have begun to recover and work more freely, he noted.

"Thanks to our persistence in creating the cultural endowment fund and the first cultural channel in Indonesia. Currently, there is no longer any space and support limitation on expression, so we can keep advancing our culture," he added. Read More...
