Education must aim at jobs
Far too many study courses that are not in demand on the job market at the same time that companies are clamoring for skills. If companies are to be able to grow and continue hiring, access to suitable labor is a prerequisite. Small businesses individually have limited needs for competence and competence development, but collectively the need is enormous. In other words, it is not a day too early that the dimensioning takes into account the needs of the business world.
The government is now giving the Swedish National Agency for Education the task of developing regional planning documents to support principals' planning, dimensioning and offering of education in upper secondary school and municipal adult education.
Long awaited decision
The Riksdag decided last spring on a bill on improved planning and dimensioning of upper secondary and upper secondary adult education. The number of training places in upper secondary school and municipal adult vocational training (vocational adult) must be adapted to occupational categories and industries where the need for recruitment is great. The decision was long-awaited by the entire business community.
In Sweden, small businesses have accounted for 4 out of 5 new jobs since 1990. More people work there than in any other category of businesses or organizations.
