Environmental Prosecutor of Tumbes investigates indiscriminate logging and damage to the carob tree
The Tumbes Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office (FEMA) opened an investigation against those responsible for the indiscriminate felling and burning of forests in the Tutumo sector, in the province of Zarumilla; as well as for the damage to the carob tree forest species in the district of Pampas de Hospital, in the province of Tumbes.
The FEMA of Tumbes, in a diligence carried out this week in Tutumo, evidenced felling and burning of forest species such as ceibo, pasallo, polo polo, carob, charán and barbasco; as well as that the overal and perillo shrub species were cut with an ax and chainsaw, which constitute a crime against forests and forest formations, provided for in article 310 of the Penal Code.

Likewise, in the verified area, the installation of props of forest species such as charán and carob was observed.
The fiscal diligence was carried out with the participation of police personnel from the Decentralized Unit for the Protection of the Environment of Tumbes and the Forest Directorate of Wild Fauna and Agrarian Environmental Affairs of Tumbes.
Damage to the forest species of the carob tree
Regarding the damage to the carob tree, the investigations were opened after a diligence by FEMA and personnel from the Pampas de Hospital police station and the Tumbes Forest Directorate of Wild Fauna and Agrarian Environmental Affairs, in the El Limón-Prado sector.

In this sector, the authorities certified that foreign hands had caused clearing or damage to the natural plantations of carob trees , which is a protected forest species from which charcoal is produced and the food product of great vitamin value such as carob. Read More…
