Four Bodies Found in Mthatha: Appeal for communities to cooperate with the Police

Mthatha, a town located in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, has been grappling with a surge in violent crimes. The local police station, ranked 25th nationwide in terms of murder cases reported during the first quarter of this year, has recently witnessed a disturbing development. Within a span of just two days, four lifeless bodies were discovered in Kaplani Village, prompting the authorities to seek public assistance in solving these heinous crimes.

The most recent incident unfolded on Monday afternoon when two bodies were found floating in a nearby dam. The victims were identified as Lunga Feya, 27 years old, and Luthando Thingithingi, 34 years old. Tragically, it was evident that both individuals had suffered from multiple injuries prior to their deaths.

A separate incident occurred on Saturday evening, when the police received a report about a burned vehicle, later identified as belonging to the Department of Correctional Services. Upon closer inspection, two charred bodies, unrecognizable due to the severity of the fire, were discovered inside the vehicle. As of now, the identities of these victims remain unknown.

Expressing deep concern over these distressing events, Provincial Commissioner Nomthetheleli Mene has swiftly mobilized a dedicated task team to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Commissioner Mene conveyed her unwavering confidence in the team's abilities, emphasizing their commitment to relentlessly pursue a breakthrough in these cases. In light of these developments, she implored the local community to collaborate closely with the police, urging them to promptly share any information that could assist in the ongoing investigations.

These tragic incidents cast a somber shadow over the recent release of crime statistics by Police Minister Bheki Cele. The data, covering the first three months of the year, revealed a distressing total of 6,289 reported murders across the country during that period. Such figures underscore the pressing need for collective efforts to combat crime and restore safety and security to our communities.

In conclusion, the residents of Mthatha are urged to stand together in the face of these alarming crimes. By working hand in hand with law enforcement, we can hope to bring an end to this wave of violence that has engulfed our town. Let us remain vigilant, report any relevant information, and support the authorities in their pursuit of justice.
