Greek Police Seize 3.2 Million Euros of Cocaine in Banana Containers
Authorities in northern Greece have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking. On Saturday, the police announced the successful seizure of numerous packages of cocaine concealed within banana-laden containers, which had been transported from Latin America.
At the bustling port of Piraeus, two containers aroused suspicion, prompting law enforcement to take swift action. The containers were subsequently transported to the port of Thessaloniki for further investigation. To their astonishment, authorities discovered a total of 100 concealed "bricks" of cocaine, weighing an impressive 161 kilograms.
The estimated value of the seized drugs is a staggering 3.2 million euros. It is believed that this substantial quantity of cocaine was destined for distribution throughout Greece and various other European countries. The seizure of such a significant amount has dealt a severe blow to the illicit drug trade in the region.
This successful operation is the result of a collaborative effort between Greece, North Macedonia, and the United States. The investigation was initiated last month following the discovery of approximately 100 kilograms of cocaine, also concealed within banana containers at a warehouse in Thessaloniki. As a result of the ongoing investigation, authorities have already apprehended 14 individuals connected to that case.
Law enforcement agencies in Greece remain committed to combatting drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and security of their communities. The diligent efforts of these dedicated individuals have once again disrupted the operations of criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade.
