Introducing Katarsis: Lithuania's Rising Post-Punk Band at Eurovision 2025
The sixteenth artists to feature in our "Who Is" series for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 is Katarsis, a post-punk band from Lithuania. Formed in 2020, the band consists of Lukas Radzevičius (vocalist and guitar), Emilija Kandratavičiūtė (bass), Jokūbas Andriulis (drums), and Alanas Brasas (lead guitar).
Katarsis gained initial recognition with their debut single "Vasarą galvoj minoras," which charted fourth on the Lithuanian Neighbouring Rights Association’s billboard in 2020. Since then, they have released several singles, including "Des," "Būsi," and "Praradau tave," continuing to develop their signature dark alternative sound and emotionally charged lyrics. In 2024, they self-published their first EP titled "Dausos," further solidifying their presence in the Lithuanian music scene.
On December 11, 2024, the Lithuanian broadcaster LRT announced that Katarsis was among the 45 artists vying to represent Lithuania at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland. They participated in Eurovizija.LT, the national selection, with their entry "Tavo akys" (meaning "Your Eyes"). Released on January 31, the song quickly climbed to #1 on the Lithuanian Neighbouring Rights Association’s billboard.
Katarsis successfully qualified from the fourth semi-final on February 1. During the Grand Final of Eurovizija.LT, "Tavo akys" was one of the top three songs that received the most votes from both the professional jury and the public. The band advanced to the superfinal, where they were crowned winners of the competition, thanks to the televote, earning the opportunity to represent Lithuania at Eurovision next May.
Katarsis has been drawn to perform in the first half of the second semi-final on May 15, marking an exciting milestone in their musical journey. With their unique sound and compelling performances, they are poised to make a significant impact on the Eurovision stage.
