Israeli Forces Fatally Shoot Three Palestinians in the West Bank: Palestinian Authorities Report
According to Palestinian sources, three Palestinian militants were killed during an Israeli military operation in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian health ministry released a statement on Monday, identifying the individuals who lost their lives in the Nablus-based Balata refugee camp as Muhammad Abu Zaytoun (32), Fathi Abu Rizk (30), and Abdullah Abu Hamdan (24).
When contacted by AFP, the Israeli army refrained from providing an immediate comment.
In a statement issued by the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, the armed faction affiliated with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party, it was affirmed that the three casualties were among the group's "fighters."
The West Bank has been under Israeli occupation since the Six-Day War in 1967. Approximately three million Palestinians reside there, alongside around 490,000 Israeli settlers residing in settlements deemed illegal under international law.
These recent fatalities occurred just over a week after a fragile cease-fire was established in Gaza, following a five-day cross-border conflict involving Israel and the Islamic Jihad militant group.
According to an AFP compilation of official sources from both sides, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has claimed the lives of at least 153 Palestinians, 20 Israelis, one Ukrainian, and one Italian since the beginning of the year.
The casualties include both combatants and civilians on the Palestinian side, while on the Israeli side, the majority are civilians, with three members belonging to the Arab minority.
