Jozef Kollár Gallery reopens with captivating exhibitions after devastating Fire in March

After the devastating fire, the J. Kollár Gallery in Banská Štiavnica has risen from the ashes and opened its doors to the public once again. The Slovak Mining Museum (SBM) recently announced the grand opening of the Jozef Kollár Gallery, marking the end of a two-and-a-half-month closure and an extensive renovation process to restore the smoke-filled and damp premises. SBM shared this exciting news on their social media platform.
The gallery has eagerly welcomed visitors with a diverse range of captivating exhibitions. Among them, the timeless works of Jozef Kollár and a collection of ancient art have been meticulously reinstalled. Additionally, an intriguing exhibition of minerals salvaged from the neighboring Berggericht, which fell victim to the same fire, stands proudly on display. Moreover, Silvia Balážová presents her thought-provoking contemporary art exhibition titled "Grass grows even on stones under the snow." Another noteworthy addition is the joint exhibition by Barbora Fastrová and Johana Pošová, aptly named "Snake." Visitors can also explore Zuzana Baková's project, "Shades of Red," and the exhibition of Marek Kvetan Petrus.
To further enhance the visitor experience, SBM has introduced new interactive activities for children at the Kammerhof known as Aha!Academia. This engaging program serves as a replacement for the beloved Georesearch activity previously offered at the Berggericht's Mineralogical Exhibition, which unfortunately fell victim to the March fire.
